Trek FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions – Crux Himalaya Treks

From choosing the right trail to understanding fitness, permits, and safety — here are answers to the questions trekkers ask us the most.
Didn’t find your answer here? Drop us your query and our team will get back within 24 hours.

How do I choose the right trek for myself?+
Every trek has its own rhythm — some test your endurance, others let you slow down and soak in silence. If you’re unsure where to start, share a bit about your fitness level, previous trekking experience, and what you’re looking for — challenge, solitude, snow, or spiritual peace — and our team will guide you to the one that fits best.
Do I need prior trekking experience?+
Not necessarily. We have treks suited for beginners (like Kedarkantha or Dayara Bugyal) and others that demand more stamina and experience (like Bali Pass or Rupin Pass). When you reach out, we’ll help you assess your readiness and guide you through the kind of preparation you’ll need.
What’s included in the trek fee?+
Our trek fees usually cover accommodation during the trek, meals, permits, forest entry charges, guide and support staff, and all essential camping equipment. Any personal expenses, travel to the base camp, or off-trek stays are generally excluded — but we’ll always give you a clear breakdown before you book.
Are foreign nationals allowed on all treks?+
Yes, we welcome trekkers from across the world. Some routes require additional permits and carry higher forest charges for non-Indian nationals, which might slightly increase the overall cost. We’ll inform you about this transparently at the time of booking. You’ll need to share your passport, visa, and proof of nationality before we apply for permits.
How fit do I need to be for a Himalayan trek?+
You don’t need to be an athlete, but a steady level of fitness helps you enjoy the trail without strain. Start light cardio, walks, or short runs at least 3–4 weeks before your trek. Remember — preparation makes the difference between surviving a trek and truly experiencing it.
What’s the best time to trek in the Himalayas?+
Each season has its charm.

Winter (Dec–Feb): Snow treks like Kedarkantha and Brahmatal.
Spring (Mar–Apr): Rhododendron blooms in Kuari Pass and Dayara Bugyal.
Summer (May–June): High-altitude routes like Rupin Pass and Buran Ghati.
Monsoon (Jul–Aug): Valley of Flowers and Kashmir Great Lakes.
Autumn (Sep–Nov): Crystal-clear skies and perfect views for treks like Har Ki Dun and Gaumukh Tapovan.
What kind of accommodation do you provide during treks?+
We stay in high-quality, weather-resistant tents — typically twin-sharing — along with separate kitchen and dining tents. At base camps or homestays, you might get cozy rooms shared with fellow trekkers. Comfort and safety are always our priority.
Can I request a private or customized trek?+
Absolutely. If you’re looking for a quieter experience with friends, family, or a team, we can curate a private trek just for you. Once we understand your preferred route, group size, and comfort level, we’ll design an itinerary and quote accordingly.
What is the Himalayan Adventure Therapy Trek?+
It’s a unique concept we’re introducing — where trekking meets inner healing. Guided by professionals trained in both adventure and psychology, these journeys are designed to help you reconnect with yourself through nature, mindfulness, and meaningful reflection.
How do I book a trek with Crux Himalaya?+
Once you’ve chosen your trek, reach out via our website or email. We’ll share the registration form, payment details, and a checklist of essentials to pack. After confirmation, our team stays in touch till you’re safely back home — because for us, every trekker is family.
What’s your cancellation or refund policy?+
Plans can change — and we understand that. Our cancellation terms depend on how close to the departure date you cancel, as permits and arrangements are made in advance. We’ll always share the detailed policy before booking so there are no surprises later.
Is it safe to trek in the Himalayas?+
Safety comes first — always. Our trek leaders are trained in wilderness first aid, we carry oxygen cylinders and medical kits on all high-altitude treks, and our routes are carefully assessed for weather and terrain. The mountains are unpredictable, but our preparation never is.
